Student Charity Ball dances to new record

Future charities will continue to be beneficiaries for many years to come, thanks to the unprecedented success of this year’s Charity Ball. A record $27,000 was raised as a result of the sold-out student gala attended by some 1,700 patrons.

Harmony House Women’s Shelter, the Peace and the Environment Resource Centre, and the Bytown Association for Rescued Kanines, shared in $12,000 worth of donations. The committee also deposited $15,000 into its Charity Ball Endowment Fund.

The Ball’s “Masquerade” theme proved to be a spectacular hit, with wardrobes that would rival any of the gowns seen on an Oscar Night red carpet runway. A pre-Ball reception hosted by the Carleton University Students’ Association, and music programmed by Kool FM 93.9 and CKCU 93.1 FM, rounded out the unique community-centred nature of the evening.
