Where are they now?

For many students, Carleton University is launch pad for both academic and athletic success. Carleton’s athletic programs have supported many star athletes who carry on to join national and even Olympic teams after graduation.

Marianne Illing (B.A./02) is but one such student. This August, she will be off to the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, with the Canadian women’s water polo team. While at Carleton, Illing was a four-time OUA all-star, female athlete of the year in 2000, and graduating athlete of the year in 2002.

The Ottawa native says her time on Carleton’s water polo team certainly helped her on her way to the Olympic Games – a personal dream come true.

The Canadian women’s water polo team is currently ranked fourth internationally. Illing, 29, is a new addition to the team, which hopes to improve its placement from the last Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, where they finished fifth.

Regardless how the team places this summer, Illing is certainly making waves as an accomplished athlete, after having first made her mark here at Carleton.
