Faculty Club revival a huge success

Over 150 people attended the recent Faculty Club revival reception. Carleton has been without a place for faculty and staff to meet since the Club’s closure in 2001. The sentiments of those in attendance supporting a renewed club were voiced by three speakers, Don Wiles on behalf of retirees, Rachelle Thibodeau for newer administrative staff, and Nandini Sarma, President of the Faculty Club Board. For older members of faculty and staff, the Club was a place where many of them met their most dearest friends. Newer members of the community said they felt isolated, rarely having the opportunity to meet those working in other departments. All in attendance agreed that collegiality at Carleton has suffered a great deal in the past four years, and a healthy Faculty Club is one of the most important means to make the institution collegial again. The executive is currently in talks with the University’s administration to work out details of such a facility.
