Neufang to Fields

Matthias Neufang, Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Research (Programs and Planning), has been appointed to the position of Interim Deputy Director of the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Science.

The Fields Institute is renowned for promoting mathematics within Canada by bringing together mathematicians from Canada and abroad to promote collaboration and research within the disciplines where applied mathematics may be used such as physical and biological sciences, medicine, economics and finance, telecommunications and information systems.

As Interim Deputy Director, Neufang plays an important role in determining the thematic and general scientific programming of the Institute whereby researchers will come together for one or two semesters to collaborate through regular workshops, conferences and advanced graduate courses.

Neufang began his appointment on Jan. 1, 2009.
