Letter to the editor: Taking an ‘alternative spring break’

On behalf of the 29 students, staff and faculty who participated in Alternative Spring Break – Mexico, I would like to thank the Carleton University community for its support. Thank you to all staff who sold fair-trade chocolate bars, or who made cash or in-kind donations. Thank you to the faculties and departments that sponsored students, including the Student Activities Fund, CUSA, and Alumni and Development. This program could not have happened without you! During the week in Cuernavaca, students worked with Habitat for Humanity and an elementary school. They also visited with families in a squatter settlement, participated in lectures and workshops, and increased their understanding of social issues facing Mexico.

With much gratitude,

Erin Kaipainen
Coordinator, Alternative Spring Break Program
