The new SAE car

As part of the regular academic program, fourth-year undergraduate engineering students designed and built a Formula SAE race car. The car will be entered in a race later this month at a competition organized by the Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE), in Pontiac, Michigan.

This will be the seventh time Carleton students have competed against 140 universities from around the world. A high level of expectation is placed upon the students to design a car that exceeds the performance levels of previous Carleton Formula SAE cars. The effort involves design and integration of many high performance components in a short period of time, overseeing the manufacturing of the car, undertaking dynamic (track) tests for commissioning the design, and raising a considerable amount of funds in support of the project. The car was completed in six months.
