Cecilia Taiana, an assistant professor in Carleton’s School of Social Work, will be spending this month at Stanford University as a research visiting scholar. She will deliver two lectures. One will be on her published work on the emergence of Freud’s theories in Argentina and the United States, which examines the differences and similarities in the reception process of transatlantic migration of Freud’s theories. The second lecture will present her current research on Jacques Lacan. It will be a critical survey of the transatlantic migration of psychological and psychoanalytical theories and their reception in Argentina and the United States that raises the broader issues of the nature of the cultural and social roots of local interpretations induced by the circulation of theories across national fields of scientific inquiry.
