2016 Achievement Awards recognize excellence in teaching and research

Congratulations to the 2016 Achievement Award winners. Each year, Carleton administers the awards in recognition of the outstanding contributions of our faculty, instructors and librarians. This year’s awards were distributed at a ceremony on Tuesday, April 19.

Teaching Achievement Awards:

The Teaching Achievement Awards for faculty and instructors are administered by the Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) to recognize and enhance excellence in teaching, and to provide financial support for the development of an innovative teaching project:

Cynthia Cruickshank, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Design

Project: Interactive Dashboard and Database for Real-time Weather Data

Maria DeRosa, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science

Project: Can a “flip” of CHEM 2501 improve student outcomes?

Dana Dragunoiu, Associate Professor, Department of English Language and Literature

Project: May Enrichment Mini-Course “Americans in Paris”

Jeffrey Erochko, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Design

 Project: Use of Augmented Reality to Teach Undergraduate Mechanics

Kanina Holmes, Associate Professor, School of Journalism and Communication, Faculty of Public Affairs

The Professional Achievement Awards for librarians and instructors are administered by the Provost’s Office to recognize outstanding scholarly achievement and to enhance excellence in teaching and professional achievement:

Contract Instructor Teaching Innovation Grant:

This award is administered by the Provost’s Office to provide support for investigating student learning and alternative approaches to teaching and assessing student learning at the individual, departmental, faculty or institutional levels:

Michael Donkers, Department of Physics, Faculty of Science

Donkers’s project will develop a Virtual Laboratory Environment that allows for real-time, hands-on approaches to understanding complex phenomena in math and science.
