University Safety News

The beginning of a new academic year brings with it a rise in the number of students, staff and faculty attending campus. This means a corresponding increase in valuable personal property which may be vulnerable to theft. During September, the Department of University Safety (DUS) received 37 reports of theft from areas across the campus, including items such as bikes, wallets and laptops.

DUS would like to remind the Carleton community of key theft prevention measures: Never leave personal belongings unattended as unguarded articles are an easy target for thieves. Always lock your doors when you are leaving your room, office, or vehicle and keep your valuables with you at all times, if practical. Take advantage of our Operation Identification program which encourages people to mark their valuables in some distinctive fashion, as well as our Laptop and Bicycle Registration programs.
