Hold the phone!

Carleton University’s Department of University Safety in conjunction with Computing and Communications Services is pleased to announce the marriage of the 911 and 4444 emergency phone systems as of September 1, 2004.

As part of University Safety’s ongoing efforts to improve response times and build a safer campus, dialing either 911 (or 9911) or 4444 in the event of an emergency will allow Safety Officers to pinpoint the exact location of an emergency call, including building and room location. Formerly, operators were only able to gather this information when callers dialed 4444. This new process will greatly improve communication between the city’s 911 service and University Safety.

All emergency calls received on campus are directed to Carleton’s Department of University Safety. Carleton operators then communicate all pertinent information to the city’s 911 service.
